The world of cryptocurrencies, while fascinating, can be equally treacherous, especially for those who approach it without proper knowledge and caution. The example of a 71-year-old resident of Lublin, who lost almost 4 million Polish zloty, is a painful proof of this.
The man, looking for investment opportunities, came across an investment offer in a new cryptocurrency. An internet company, behind which scammers were hiding, successfully convinced him to transfer a large sum of money (almost 3 million Polish Zloty). Unfortunately, the entire investment turned out to be a meticulously planned fraud, and the senior lost all his invested funds.
The misfortunes of the 71-year-old did not end there. In search of a rescue for his finances, he came across a so-called “law firm” that promised to help him recover the lost funds. They offered him a payout of a significant sum of money, but before that happened, he had to pay a service fee. It turned out that this too was another scam, and the man lost an additional over 800,000 Polish zloty.
These sad events are a warning to all those who consider investing in cryptocurrencies. The police and experts constantly appeal for caution. Before starting any investments, thorough verification of the company and the rules governing the undertaking is necessary. It is worth remembering that promises of quick and high profits often hide risks.
Scammers often exploit the lack of knowledge and trust of their victims, especially older people. Another case is the story of a 57-year-old resident of Lublin, who lost over 70,000 Polish zloty. She installed on her computer a program that was supposed to help in investing, but it turned out to be a remote desktop, giving scammers access to her bank account.
These stories are a reminder that in the world of cryptocurrencies, where technology goes hand in hand with anonymity, it is especially important to maintain prudence and caution. One should not succumb to pressure, nor act on the spur of the moment. In case of any doubts, it is always worth consulting with a trusted financial advisor or directly reporting the matter to the police.
