The latest courtroom reports bring new, albeit fragmentary, information about this legendary figure. During a trial at the High Court of Justice in the United Kingdom, where the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) faces allegations from Craig Wright claiming he is behind the Nakamoto pseudonym, emails were revealed that may shed light on the true identity of Bitcoin’s creator.<\/p>\n\n

In these documents, dating from 2008-2009, Adam Back, a cryptographer and cypherpunk, as well as co-founder and CEO of Blockstream, is listed as the recipient of correspondence from Satoshi. These emails, introduced to the public domain for the first time, provide surprising clues about the early stages of Bitcoin’s development.<\/p>\n\n

One of the first messages, dated several months before the official launch of Bitcoin, contains Satoshi’s request for confirmation of a quote from Adam Back’s earlier proof-of-work algorithm, known as Hashcash, which was later used in the Bitcoin protocol. Satoshi also shares an initial draft of the Bitcoin white paper, asking Back for feedback and suggesting that he share the document with others who might be interested.<\/p>\n\n

In subsequent exchanges, Back directs Satoshi to work on other proposed protocols, such as “B-Money” and “Micromint,” suggesting the open nature of Bitcoin’s early days. The last known email from Satoshi, dated January 2009, includes thanks to Back for suggesting additional materials and information about the launch of Bitcoin’s open-source software.<\/p>\n\n

These snippets of correspondence shed new light on the birth process of Bitcoin, highlighting key aspects that distinguish it from earlier attempts to create effective, fully digital money. They also point to a wide network of collaborators and inspirations that contributed to the birth of this innovative technology.<\/p>\n\n

While the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains one of the biggest mysteries in the world of cryptocurrencies, each new clue helps to better understand the roots and philosophy behind Bitcoin.
